The Art of Safe Tapering

Provider Education & Case Consultation

Join Us

You want to help patients come off psych meds, but we're not taught how in school.

Learn the holistic art of deprescribing with clinical education, case consultation, and colleagues who understand the complexity of this work. Build the knowledge and practice structure to give patients the time and support they need.

Learning how to prescribe isn't the same as learning how to deprescribe.

A patient wants to come off a medication. They’ve tried before, felt worse, and were told that meant they needed it. Now you’re trying to sort out what happened: was it withdrawal? Relapse? Side effects? Another medical issue? Or several things at once?

You need time to understand the history, follow their response, and adjust the plan. But your schedule barely allows time to refill the prescription.

And when the picture gets complicated, who do you call? You need colleagues who understand withdrawal, can discuss competing explanations, and are willing to sit with discomfort, all while helping you think through the next step.

You want to offer this care, but you need more education, professional support, and a workable way to provide it. Because let's face it, we were not taught how to safely taper or deprescribe in school.

Get Support

Education, consultation, and colleagues to think with.

When I first started deprescribing, I didn’t have colleagues I could talk to about this stuff. Some thought I was crazy for wanting to taper psychiatric meds at all. I needed somewhere to discuss what I was seeing, ask questions, and work through difficult decisions with people who understood why I was doing this and that I had a license to protect.

The people I knew in the tapering world understood tapers, but not the responsibilities that came with my license. My colleagues understood those responsibilities, but not the tapers. I needed both.

That’s why I created this prescriber-only space. A place to bring uncertainty, concerns, mistakes, and complicated cases, with colleagues who are willing to listen, set their judgments aside, and think through things with you.

Whether you’re already supporting tapers or want to learn how to make this part of your practice, there are two ways that White Oak can help you do that.

Provider Deprescribing Consultation Group

Bring your cases, questions, observations, and the situations you’re still trying to make sense of. We meet every other week to discuss tapering, withdrawal, and the practical challenges of providing this care. A private Telegram thread keeps the conversation going between calls and gives you a place to reach out on those clinic days when you need extra support.

Every other month, a scheduled call features an invited guest, bringing clinical expertise or firsthand experience of psychiatric medication withdrawal. These conversations give us a chance to learn from both professionals and the people receiving this care.

Membership is $250/month and is open to prescribers across all disciplines following a connection call and professional license verification.

The Holistic Art of Deprescribing

A four-month cohort primarily for NPs who want deeper clinical education and help establishing or reshaping their own practice. MDs are welcome, too.

You’ll learn my whole-person approach to assessment, individualized tapering, and ongoing support through education, Q&A, and case discussion. You’ll also experience The Clearing, my eight-week lifestyle medicine program and nervous system reset, with health-coach-led groups, so you understand the work you’ll learn to guide your patients through.

We’ll address how to organize visits, follow-up, communication, and team support, with practical templates and patient education materials you can use in your practice. Consultation-group membership is included throughout the cohort.

For FNP and PMHNP Students

If you’re an FNP or PMHNP student interested in a clinical preceptorship with White Oak Medicine, you’ll gain experience in an NP-owned practice that brings medical and mental health care together, including whole-person assessment, safe tapering, health coaching, and our lifestyle medicine program designed to support nervous system regulation. We prioritize placements across multiple semesters so you have time to learn our systems, follow patients, and gradually take on more responsibility.

My Own Untangling....

Took shape over years of sitting with people
and realizing something wasn’t adding up.

I was trained to look at the body and the mind.
But that split never made sense.

There is always a whole person in front of me—
a life, a nervous system, a pattern, a story.

And over time, I saw something else.

It wasn’t that people didn’t have answers.
It’s that they couldn’t hear them.

The signal was there—
buried under noise.

Advice. Protocols. Diagnoses.
Even well-meaning care.

So I built frameworks.
Holistic psychiatry. Functional medicine.

But this work kept growing beyond those names.

Because this isn’t about treating symptoms.

It’s about learning how to read them.
And rebuilding a relationship with your body
so you can recognize what it’s asking for
without needing someone else to interpret it for you.

A return to rhythm.
A return to nature.
A return home.
